Privacy policy
What this website does with your information, who else sees it, and how to ask us about it.
Who we are
This website belongs to Afif Nabbout & Sons Co., a tyre and car battery company in Lebanon. On this page, “we” means us.
What we ask you for
Nothing. You can use the whole site without an account, and without giving us your name, number or email. There is no sign-up and no contact form.
The site itself sets no cookies. We use no analytics and no advertising tools, including Vercel’s own analytics.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel, a US company. Vercel serves our pages from its network around the world, and handles data in the United States and the other countries where it operates.
Each time you open a page, Vercel receives your IP address (the address of your internet connection), your browser details, the page you asked for and the page you came from. From your IP address it works out your city and country, but not your precise location.
Vercel keeps our site’s request logs, which hold these details, for 1 hour. Vercel also keeps information for its own needs, such as security and its legal duties, for the minimum period it needs, then deletes or anonymises it. Its privacy notice explains this.
To protect the site from attacks, Vercel checks incoming traffic. It may block traffic, or ask a browser to pass a quick check. A browser that passes is remembered for one hour.
The Sidewall Scanner
The Sidewall Scanner reads the size and date code from a photo of your tyre’s sidewall.
Before the photo leaves your device, the page makes it smaller and saves it as a new image. Hidden details in the original file, such as where the photo was taken, are not copied into it.
We send the photo to Anthropic, our AI provider, to read the markings. Anthropic is a US company that makes the Claude AI models.
Our server never saves your photo. It holds the photo in memory only while it is read, and never writes it to disk or logs it.
Anthropic receives the photo, and may keep it and its reading for a limited period under its own terms. Your photo is never used to train any AI model: Anthropic’s commercial terms do not allow it.
The reading comes back to your screen, and our server doesn’t keep it. It logs only how each scan ended (read in full, read in part or not read) and how many scans the site has made that day. Those log lines are kept with the request logs described under Hosting.
To stop the scanner being overused, our server counts the scans from each IP address over the last hour and the last day. The count is kept only in the server’s memory. It is never saved, and it is cleared whenever the server restarts.
If you type your size instead, no photo is sent and Anthropic is not involved.
Google reviews and maps
The homepage shows reviews of our branches from Google, through Google’s Places API. Our server asks Google for them, and that request carries nothing about you.
The reviewers’ profile pictures load straight from Google. So when they load, Google receives your IP address and basic details of your browser.
The Directions links open Google Maps. Google handles what it receives under the Google Privacy Policy.
Questions and orders go through WhatsApp. A WhatsApp button opens WhatsApp, sometimes with a message already written. Nothing is sent until you press send in WhatsApp.
When you message us, we receive your WhatsApp name, your number and whatever you send. Our customer support staff read your messages.
An order comes in as a plain WhatsApp message. Our staff enter it into our internal business system (ERP), which creates a client record for you. We keep your client record for as long as your account with us exists, because it is part of our accounting records.
We never add your number to any broadcast or marketing list, and we don’t use it for marketing.
WhatsApp is a separate service with its own privacy policy.
Which law applies
We handle your information under Lebanese law, including Law No. 81/2018 on Electronic Transactions and Personal Data. Any dispute goes to the courts of Lebanon.
Asking about your data
To ask what we hold about you, or to ask us to change or delete it, message us on WhatsApp.
You can also call or visit any of our branches. Their numbers and addresses are on the Branches page.
Our terms of use cover the rest: what the site promises, and what it doesn’t.
